TOPAP has included 19 inch monitors on all of the workstations to assist older people and vision impaired people.
The larger the screen the easier it is for older people to view the information displayed, and this reduces the 'noddy affect' for people using bifocal glasses.
The size of the text and icons can be changed to accommodate
vision impaired people.
This is achieved through the 'Display Properties' 'Appearance' tab by changing the 'Scheme' option as shown in the picture on the left.
There are a number of options available, we have found the 'High contrast (extra large)' suitable for most people.
The idea of enlarging the text to allow VIP people comfort in viewing the screen. If they are still having problems viewing the screen contents there is a magnifier that can be adjusted to enlarge portion of the screen to enable visual access.
Options are available to change magnification level the image below displays only part of the possibilities.

These settings can be programmed into a user format.
This is to reduce the need to change the visual setting every time a visual impaired person wishes to use the computer.

Computer users had little choice in keyboard or mouse usage prior to the introduction to Windows '95. The use of the keyboard was mandatory to control or start programs. Most computer operators were trained in the keyboard usage and had little or no mouse usage as programs were not written to employ the mouse.
Most programs employed key combination short cuts to enable formatting of the text and data input and manipulation.
The keyboard shortcuts were continued to enable people that were use to using the keyboard over the mouse. Most typists found the keyboard short cuts beneficial over the mouse usage as they could access options from the keyboard.
Most of the short cuts are accessible from the drop down menus in most programs and with key combinations namely the a and c keys. They have been divided into several groups.
